These tin bowls are for serving makgeolli (Korean rice liquor). They are sold in most Korean grocery stores, and are pretty cheap. You can serve makgeolli in any cup or glass, but these low, wide, simple rustic bowls are cheap, light, easy to clean, hard to break, and conduct cold quickly, so holding a cold bowl of makgeolli immediately feels cold in your hands.

My cookbooks
Which to get? Both are best sellers and either one is a good choice if you want to learn Korean home cooking. Maangchi's Real Korean Cooking has all the recipes for all the essential Korean pastes and sauces, but my second book Maangchi's Big Book of Korean Cooking has more recipes, more photos, and more variety.
Maangchi- what is the big bowl named? Thanks!
