Buying stainless steel chopsticks online
Koreans use chopsticks to eat the side dishes served with rice and soup. Korean chopsticks are made of metal, and are thin, flat, and squared off at the end. They are heavier and thinner than wooden and bamboo chopsticks and shorter than most Chinese chopsticks.
A long time ago we used to use brass or silver chopsticks, and we often use disposable wooden chopsticks too (especially for takeout food), but most Koreans prefer these stainless steel ones.
Of course you can use any chopsticks you want to eat Korean food – or even a knife and fork – but for an authentic Korean table setting you can find these chopsticks at all Korean grocery stores.
how do you do chopsticks when traveling? do you take your pair with you? how do you store them? in a case or other?
also , there is a kosher Korean restaurant here in Israel , in the old city Jerusalem . when it opens you should go there and do a review…. it is run by a Korean lady that converted to Judaism…. only one of its kind…. it underwent renovations – cant wait to taste- according to them -its going to be a vegan/ fish restaurant – lemehadrin hopefully , the proprietress name is tzipporah Rothkopf….
Hi Maangchi,
I am interested in buying the entire set of Korean dinnerware. Where would you suggest that I get them in Korea?
I just got mine, it the korean porcelain handle chopstick and spoon and i love it very much, but i can only manage to get one set.
I love the metal chopsticks, I was really surprised when I found them in our local Chinese shop. The ridges at the end make things easier to pick up! My boyfriend lost one of them last week :(
My dad thought he was being funny when he took my wooden chopsticks and handed me a pair of these, but I actually have an easier time with these. Even he was suprised. xD
I haven’t been able to find them in any stores I’ve been in, but then again, that’s the beauty of the internet.
I’m so happy. Today I finally found a really nice box of five sets of sujeo at the Korean market! I’ve been looking for them for weeks. Now I can practice using the flat metal chopsticks so I can get really good at it. I’m also really happy with the lovely spoons that come with. Now I can eat my kimchi chigae and rice in style like a prince! :)
like a prince! : ) awesome!
Will you please tell me how much you paid for your set? I would like to purchase one.
Ooh yay! I have some tiny hello kitty ones i got from my korean friend when i was like 6
practice makes perfect with these steel chopsticks. everything slips out when you first start using them, but now there’s nothing else I’d rather use.
i also love the long-handled stainless steel spoons from Korea. it’s taken the place of the other spoons in our house!
I already have the steel chopsticks that my boyfriend and I use all the time. I’d like to purchase some of the long spoons, do you know if I can get those without the chopsticks? I’ve been to a couple Asian markets and am not finding them. Thank you!
I Love the Wooden Chopsticks !! They turn Red after much Kimchi that I eat ! They are inexpensive –so I keep buying them ! Is this why Koreans Prefer Metal copsticks (just wondering) . Wooden ones stain to easy.
oh, yeah? I can handle both chopsticks easily. : )
I read someplace that the production of wooden chopsticks are very hard on the environment because of the bleaching and the massive amounts of wood it uses.
If everybody would use re-usable stainless steel chopsticks it would make a big difference!
hmm, good thinking! thank you! Happy New Year!
I tried many times to use stainless chopsticks and fail every time. :-) It’s too slippery for me, though my Korean relatives have no problems.
So I stick with the nice wooden ones you can find in asian shops. They have a fine tip so it makes for easier picking up of food
We used to use these steel ones, but my mom changed to plastic because the steel ones would always seem to try to fall down the drain. :D Now I’m so used to the plastic and the wooden ones.
My sister and I each bought a set (chopstick/spoon) and I use it everyday, love how long the spoons are! lol. Mines is cute, it has the white handles with the cute smiley face, and my sister’s is just the regular one with rose decoration at the holding part.. I think they’re easier to use too.
I remember my boy friend and I were having Korean food and he finds it really difficult to use “skinny” chopsticks.
You are the first person to comment on these chopsticks. ; )
I just posted the photo now. Stainless chopsticks are easier to use for me.
