Harvey Elliot has been told by ex-Liverpool winger Joe Cole that there are "options" for him to leave the club this summer, in order to get regular football.

Liverpool could be celebrating their Premier League victory by the end of this weekend, with win or even a draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon securing the title for them.

This would mark the Reds' second championship in five years, but it would be their first time celebrating with fans since 1990, as their 2020 triumph was observed behind closed doors due to the Covid pandemic.

While all Liverpool players eagerly anticipate the occasion, it holds special significance for those who grew up as club fans, like Harvey Elliott.

The attacking midfielder made two appearances in his debut season at Anfield following a transfer from Fulham, which ended with Jurgen Klopp's team winning the Premier League effortlessly. However, it was after a successful loan spell at Blackburn Rovers that he became a regular in the first team.

Elliott has found it more challenging to get game time this season following Arne Slot's arrival as Klopp's successor. In fact, he hasn't started a league game under the Dutchman yet, but he has made significant contributions from the bench - most notably scoring the first-leg-winning goal against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

There's been speculation around Elliott's long-term place at Liverpool, and ex-Reds star Cole reckons the star won't be short on choices should he or the club think it's time to move on.

Speaking to Paddy Power, Cole praised both Elliott and Curtis Jones for their talent and potential to become international regulars. Yet, he noted Liverpool's strength in midfield might limit their chances.

He said: "I'd love to see Harvey playing regularly. There are options for him and if he does become available, I think quite a few teams will be interested in him.

"He's a fantastic player and I'd like to see him leave Liverpool to play regular football because he's old enough and has done his time. I'd just love to see him play because he's such a fantastically talented player."

Elliott, who racked up 53 appearances under Klopp's last season at Liverpool, opened up about his frustration over not getting enough game time after clinching a win in Paris in March.

Reflecting on his situation, Elliott said: "I'm still young, it's a hard thing to understand in my head really. I've played almost 150 games for Liverpool and I feel like I'm very experienced in terms of that aspect.

"So there are moments within the season where I am getting angry, I am getting frustrated because I want to play, but at the same time I need to respect the situation, I need to respect the manager's decisions.

"Some games I'm needed, some games I'm not. That's just how football is. That's why I feel like we're in the position that we are in this season so far because of his decisions."

Elliott then spoke about his discussions with Slot, adding: "We've had conversations. Very honest conversations and open conversations. It's down to me to put the work in, to be honest, and show him everything that he's told me.

"I'm trying to work on it, I'm trying to improve and I'm trying to get in this team. At the same time, I feel like I can't get too angry and frustrated because quite frankly the team is doing amazing. It's a team game.
